WARNING: Internet Scam Directed To Lawyers

I have come to learn that there are various internet scams directed to lawyers.   In sum, the scam goes like this: the lawyer is contacted by a person purporting to represent a manufacturer who asks the lawyer to draft a purchase and sale transaction involving equipment that is to be received in the lawyer’s jurisdiction.  The parties’ identities have been stolen however.   The goal is to have the lawyer receive a fraudulent check purporting to pay for the equipment and then wire funds to the seller before the check is returned as fraudulent.    You can learn more about it here.

PLEASE BE VIGILANT IF YOU RECEIVE ANY SUCH COMMUNICATION.    THE SCAMMERS USE A LONG LIST OF STOLEN IDENTITIES OF BOTH INDIVIDUALS AND ACTUAL CORPORATIONS.
